The Winfield R-IV School District has proudly provided quality Special Education services for decades and continues to be accredited in the field of Special Education by the state. Complying with the law for considerations of Least Restrictive Environment, we provide a full continuum of services. Each student who meets eligibility for special education defined by the State and Local Compliance Plans and is in need of “Specialized Instruction” has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Prior to having an IEP written, a required comprehensive education evaluation is completed. The district employs certified Psychological Examiners to complete these educational evaluations. The law requires each evaluation to be reviewed every three years and each IEP to be reviewed and revised at least annually.
The student’s IEP team, which includes the student’s parents, determines the service delivery needed to support the student making progress on the IEP goals. The service delivery models include but are not limited to:
Resource
Direct Instruction
Essential Skills
Centers Based Instruction
Outside Placements
Homebound
Students who may experience significant regression during the summer or are starting to acquire an “emerging skill” may qualify for Extended School Year (ESY).
